Introduction
Pharmaceutical Chemistry is a core discipline within the Pharmaceutical Sciences. It is centrally engaged in the drug discovery process, mainly focusing on lead identification, lead optimization, structure-activity relationship investigations, and Pharmacopoeial requirements of drugs.
In education, the pharmaceutical chemistry department is committed to top-quality academic teaching to ensure that our students will fulfill the needs and strong demands of highly qualified and motivated pharmacist in the pharmaceutical fields.
In research field, our target is to proceed and develop high quality, professional, challenging, and innovate researchers to compete with global publications. Moreover, improving their good thinking, problem-solving skills and work collaboratively as a member of professional researches team.
The pharmaceutical chemistry is a wide scope field of physical, chemical, analytical, and biological sciences, where the undergraduate students gain basic knowledge in these interrelated fields to be the future expert scientist to discover, develop new therapeutics. In our department, our teams conduct research adopting novel technologies, with the aim of discovering, synthesizing, and developing novel drugs that have lower side effects and better health outcome on the patients, such as the fields of cancer therapy, antiviral, anti-infectious agents, anti-inflammatory drugs, hormones, cardiovascular and anti-convulsant drugs.
- Developing the student’s learning outcomes by integrating pharmaceutical knowledge from fundamental and pharmaceutical sciences to handle, identify, design, synthesize, and analyze pharmaceutical drugs.
- Enhancing the student’s ability to recall knowledge from fundamental sciences to explain the pharmacological action of drugs.
- The student can apply scientific literature professionally, collect and interpret data to enhance professional decisions.
- The student can distinguish and critically analyze newly emerging issues influencing the pharmaceutical industry and patient health care.
- Enhancing the student`s ability to use the acquired information to isolate, identify, synthesize, purify, analyze, and standardize pharmaceutical materials from synthetic origin.
- The student can recognize the principles of various tools and instruments in the pharmaceutical industry alongside selecting the appropriate techniques for synthesis and analysis of raw materials and production of pharmaceutical products.
- Strengthening the student’s personal skills by sharing and participating effectively in teamwork and show leadership skills.
- The student can apply critical thinking in retrieving information, identify and critically analyze information to solve problems effectively in a team.
- The student can apply writing and presentation skills using modern information technology and media skills and keep lifelong learning independently to develop his professional skills.
- Conducting research in pharmaceutical chemistry specialty in labs of the Department and the Faculty, encouragement of publishing scientific papers in specialized scientific journals, and attending conferences and workshops to enrich scientific research and to gain skills and experience.
